Foundational Behaviors and Expectations
All Bellin College students are expected to uphold and embody the College’s Foundational Behaviors as part of their responsibility to the campus community. By enrolling at Bellin College, students agree to contribute to a culture of safety and belonging, be team players, use effective communication, maintain professionalism, commit to ongoing growth, be servant leaders, think critically, and use institutional resources responsibly. These behaviors guide how students engage with peers, faculty, staff, patients, and community partners, both on and off campus. Failure to uphold these expectations may result in disciplinary action and be addressed through applicable institutional policies and procedures, including but not limited to the Student Behavior Conduct Hearing Procedures, the Student Performance Notification (SPN) Policy, the Bias Incident Policy, and any other relevant College policies. Adherence to these principles is essential to personal success, professional development, and the collective well-being of the Bellin College community.
The Foundational Behaviors are as follows:
Create a Culture of Safety and Belonging
We actively contribute to a campus environment where everyone feels physically safe, emotionally supported, and valued for who they are. I listen with empathy, speak with respect, and challenge behaviors that exclude or harm others. I am responsible for fostering spaces where differences are embraced, voices are heard, and every person knows they belong at Bellin College.
Be a Team Player
We support one another by communicating openly and with humility, showing up with reliability, and working collaboratively toward shared goals. We recognize that everyone’s contributions matter and that success is a collective effort. I lead with care, offer help when needed, and celebrate the achievements of others as much as my own.
Use Effective Communication
We will value communication across the Bellin College community by interacting respectfully and clearly with others. I will communicate professionally in face-to-face, virtual, and written interactions, and demonstrate my ability to maintain confidentiality as appropriate and to share information in ways that encourage collaboration and trust.
Maintain Professionalism
We conduct ourselves professionally in all interactions inside and outside of the Bellin College community. I understand that my actions reflect not just on me, but on others within my community. I seek to represent myself and others well by maintaining professionalism in ways that encourage trust and build relationships.
Commit to Growth
We take ownership of our professional and personal development by embracing opportunities to learn. We encourage one another to stretch beyond comfort zones, be resilient in the face of adversity, and strive for excellence in all we do. I understand that growth is ongoing and essential to becoming a compassionate, skilled professional and well-rounded individual.
Be a Servant Leader We prioritize the needs of others and focus on supporting individual growth and well-being. I am committed to serving my community, encouraging collaboration, and creating an environment where everyone is empowered and can thrive.
Think Critically
We reflect on feedback and experiences to improve future decisions. I apply evidence-based research and best practices with a focus on safety, quality, and collaboration. By thinking creatively, I stay curious and committed to lifelong learning.
Use Resources Responsibly
We are innovative with the institution’s resources (people, information, tools, and finances). I use resources responsibly, keeping in mind equity and sustainability.
