The HSRC provides the link between theory and practice through simulated hands-on learning experiences. A variety of learning resources are used to enhance understanding, develop psychomotor skills, and build confidence in the health care environment. The HSRC is located in the lower level of the Resch campus. It includes the following:
Health Assessment Labs
Two health assessment rooms equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies for instruction and practice in physical assessment. Students are encouraged to bring a change of clothing with them, shorts, or comfortable pants and t-shirt, as students will assess each other.
Simulation Labs
The facility includes several simulation laboratory areas, such as a surgical suite, an emergency department/intensive care unit/pediatric room, a birthing suite, four physician examination rooms, and a four-bed medical-surgical unit. Students utilize these rooms with faculty led scenarios to help prepare them for clinical experiences. These hands-on experiences help students develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Skill Labs
There are two skill lab rooms that each room accommodate six or seven simulated patients. The primary purpose of the skills labs is to enhance classroom activities and support student learning in a safe environment. These areas are equipped with hospital beds, manikins for practicing skills before they are attempted in a clinical setting with actual patients. Additional training models are available for specialized skills such as injections, IV fluid therapy, ostomy care, etc. Any invasive procedures are to be performed ONLY on manikins and training models. No invasive procedures are to be performed on any person, ever. NO needles or sharps are to be removed from the HSRC. (No exceptions)
Allied Health Specialized Rooms
The facility includes two radiology laboratory spaces equipped with X-ray machines, as well as a mammography simulation area. Additionally, there is a classroom featuring both an MRI simulator and a CT scan simulator.
The Radiation Therapy classroom houses a 3D VERT (Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Training) system.
The Surgical Assisting program provides access to a fully equipped surgical suite and a dedicated surgical skills laboratory.
