This is the first of three courses dedicated to immersing physical therapy students into the clinical environment through part-time clinical experiences. This course provides students with active learning opportunities to begin to develop their professional identity and reinforce didactic content and skills learned in other courses through real and simulated clinical encounters with diverse patient groups in an inpatient setting, outpatient setting, and community setting. Emphasis is placed on infection prevention, patient safety, performance of basic tests and measures used in physical therapy screening and examination, learning the roles and responsibilities of the healthcare team, improving communication skills, and beginning to apply the International Classification of Function to patient cases.
