Clinical Grade

The clinical grade will be “S” = Satisfactory or “U” =Unsatisfactory based on the student’s performance in the clinical setting. No more than 2 “U” s are allowed within each category. If there are more than 2 “U” s in one category the student will receive an unsatisfactory grade for that category. Any Unsatisfactory grade will result in failure of the clinical component and failure of the program.

Each course is graded in its entirety. A student must be successful in all course requirements to receive a passing grade. The course outcomes are represented in all course components.

Late Assignment or Late Test Policy

Late Graded Assignment and Late Exam Policy

Assignments and exams are to be completed by the defined due dates. Extenuating circumstances will be considered by faculty on an individual basis when faculty are consulted prior to the due date.

Graded Assignments:

If prior approval is not secured, points will be deducted from the final grade for late assignments. Assignments will be graded as normal. Points are then deducted as outlined below to determine the final grade:

Undergraduate Assignments submitted:

  1. 0 to < 24 hours late -5 percentage points
  2. 24 to < 48 hours late – 10 percentage points
  3. 48 to < 72 hours late – 15 percentage points
  4. > 72 hours late – score grade of “0”

Graduate Assignments submitted:

  1. 0 to < 24 hours late – a minimum of 5 percentage points
  2. 24 to < 48 hours late – a minimum of 10 percentage points
  3. 48 to < 72 hours late – a minimum of 15percentage points
  4. > 72 hours late – score grade of “0”

Pass / Fail Courses:

Assignments within a Pass / Fail are to be submitted on time. If prior approval is not secured, students are first counseled on the expectation for complete and timely assignments. Continuing issues with incomplete or late submissions may result in disciplinary action and / or failure of a pass / fail course.

Discussion Posts/Forums

Late or insufficient sharing of learners' ideas in discussion forums is like showing up for class after class ended. Students submitting posts original posts after the due date will earn a zero. Students submitting late response posts will be graded according to the rubric or late assignment policy.

Graded Exams / Quizzes

Exams and quizzes must be taken at the scheduled time unless prior arrangements have been made. Failure to inform faculty of a missed exam or quiz could result in a zero or alternate assessment method. If an emergency the day of an exam/quiz occurs, students should make every effort to contact faculty as soon as possible to make alternative arrangements.

Complete / Incomplete Assignments

Assignments graded as complete/incomplete are to be submitted by the deadline. Failure to submit on time may result in an incomplete.

Workbook and Worksheet Assignments

These assignments are due on the dates noted in the detailed class schedule. The on-time completion of the workbook/worksheet assignments is worth 15% of the final GPA. Assignments must be entirely completed before a student is eligible for the clinical portion of the course.

Quizzes

There are four (15-16 question) quizzes throughout the course. These are completed remotely from home through the Honorlock test taking program. Quizzes count for 10% of the final GPA.

Exams

There are four (50 question) regular exams throughout the course, plus the final exam. These are also taken remotely from home through the Honorlock test taking program. There are no re-takes offered on these exams. The 4 exams count for 40% of the GPA.

Final Exam

This exam counts for 30% of the GPA and is taken after the student has completed the clinical portion of the course. An 77% score must be achieved on the final exam to pass this course. This is the only exam that you are offered one re-take. The highest grade that will be recorded for the final exam re-take exam will be an 77%, even if the student scored higher.  If the student is not successful with earning an 77% score on the re-take exam, the student has failed the course.

Bed Bath Checkoff

Assignment for students to demonstrate competent skills associated with giving a complete bed bath. Students are scored on skills related to infection control, safety, communication, privacy and changing an occupied bed.

How to stay eligible to attend the clinical portion of the course

The combined scores on all components are added together:

  • Workbook/Worksheet assignments +
  • Bed Bath Skill demonstration (or alternate assignments) +
  • Quiz scores +
  • Exam scores +

These components represent the theoretical or knowledge part of this course. A student needs to show aptitude for the theoretical basis of this course with a score of no lower than 77%. If the total of this classroom work falls below the 77% cutoff, the student has failed the course at this point, and is not eligible to proceed onward with the clinical portion.
